AMAZON
Commission from Music Theatre Wales & London Sinfonietta, for HOME Manchester’s HOMEMAKERS project
About
In April 2020, as the coronavirus pandemic hit the UK and arts venues across the country were forced to shut their doors, HOME Manchester set up the HOMEMAKERS project, inviting artists to create new works at home, for an audience who were also at home. The provocation was to challenge the definition of ‘live performance’ – whether through live streaming, recordings, games, interactive stories, personal encounters, or something completely different.
Elayce was paired with composer Alex Ho and together they created AMAZON.
Working with each other whilst Elayce was based in London and Alex in Cambridge was a chance to learn about each other’s practice and forge a new (remote) collaboration, tested by the limits of life in lockdown, but also inspired by the chance to think, create and collaborate in imaginative ways. The result was AMAZON, a hybrid stop motion, music and narrative piece of digital art that took them on a surprising and playful journey to the other side of the world, from their living rooms.
